Hi, thanks for that explanation in “starts soft, gets hard” that if you LEAVE IT IN THE GROUND , it then becomes more bitter.
If I’m not mistaken, I’ve heard many times the explanation that it starts mild and turns bitter AFTER EATING IT.
Any source for either explanation? Thanks!
Hi, I am not familiar with the second suggested explanation. But the Talmud does state that lettuce is like the enslavement. It started pleasantly and then turned bitter. Many commentaries learn that the Jews were encouraged to “register” to work voluntarily to show their gratitude to the country. Once they were registered, it morphed into slavery.
