So is there ever a case when a dream really should have a bad interpretation- or has no good one?
Interesting topic!
Great Question! The Talmud discusses the idea that sometimes a good person can be spurred on to better Mitzvos if he/she has a bad dream that concerns them, and that a bad person can be lulled into complacency by a good dream. Certainly, if a mentor thinks it is a warning, there may be something to be gleaned from a bad dream. But in a practical sense, in almost all cases, our obligation is to endeavor to interpret a person’s dream “LiTova- For good.” I would call it being kind and neighborly.
Best wishes!
