The Torah in Vayikra 19:27 prohibits a man to shave his facial hair with a razor. This law is codified in Shulchan Aruch, Yoreh Deah 181:3.

Hi,
What brands/types of electric shavers are acceptable for me to use?
RMR> Fundamentally, either shavers are permitted or are not.
We follow ruling that they are permitted, but many try to at least follow the view that excludes some extreme types of shavers which operate like a razor cut.
One example is the Lift and Cut models, for which the lift and cut mechanism can be removed (that’s what I did for mine when I was shaving).
koshershavers.org reports that Noreloco recently came out with a rotary shaver which is called comfortcut or closecut which does not have the lift and cut mechanism, so it is good straight out of the box without the fix: http://koshershaver.org/ faqs.htm#kosher
Some say that there is a problem with Remington microscreen (foil) & the Braun Microscreen (foil) shavers.
It would be best to go with the rotary shaver described if that works for you. But there really are a few options that are fine.
Let me know your preference…
Best,
Rabbi Rhine
